My back story…

The F&B industry has been a big part of my (Pete Smith) life.

This picture is from a restaurant called “Smitty’s”, my Great-Grandfather’s nick-name. This was his first restaurant in Macon, GA that was operated from the late 20′s to mid 30′s. This “quick shop” style restaurant was so successful that he decided to open another restaurant, called S&S Cafeteria in 1936 in Columbus GA. At this point in time my Grandfather, who was 15, was the 2nd “S” in S&S (Smith and Son Cafeteria). Check out S&S in the pic below.

Throughout the remainder of the 1930′s and until present day, S&S has continued to grow and currently has 8 different locations throughout the Southeast. S&S is how I got started in the food business. The summer before my 9th grade, at 14 years old, I started working in the storeroom of the S&S Cafeteria in Atlanta, GA. I continued working there throughout the summer of my senior year in high school, until I moved to Charleston to attend CofC. While attending college I continued working in various restaurants around town and after 2 years of CofC, I realized it was not the place for me. I transferred to Johnson and Wales, completed the 4 year program, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management.

And now the next chapter begins with the launch of HōM.
